This is my “Question of the Week” segment. I was first introduced to this when I was interning with The Portsmouth Herald in college and always thought it was a good, fun way to talk about local sports. I have used it with other newspapers since and wanted to keep it going. I will provide a question every week that I myself will answer, but I will also bring other people that work around sports in the community in to submit answers as well. But I also want to hear from the community. When I post the Question of the Week every week, if any readers would like to submit answers, I would love to add them online here. I will put the answers up here, but don’t worry, I won’t put full names. Can’t wait to hear from everyone. I will get things started.

Question of the Week:

What are you looking forward to most out of this winter season?

Anthony Labor, Creator of NorthwestVTSports.Com: I wanted to be really generic with my first question of the week to try and include a wide variety of topics from specific teams, to certain sports in general to specific players. I will get more detailed as we go along. But I have kind of an overall answer in that I am looking forward to seeing the different stories that are going to come out every program this season. There are a variety of different storylines all around the county with different teams and they all are interesting in their own ways. If we just look at the two girls hockey programs in the area, the BFA-St. Albans team will be up toward the top of Div. I like they always are, but they will be very young this year compared to last year. Their leading point scorer was a freshman last year in Jodie Gratton, but the team did graduate a lot of talent all around, but have a number of young players coming in that they are confident in and have a solid goaltender in Macie Boinssonneault. The MVU girls hockey team returns their whole team and will be dangerous all around with Breezy Parent and Bri Jarvis leading the charge up front, Abby Bessette continuing her stellar high school career at the blue line and Madison Conley back in between the pipes. I’m pretty excited for when these two teams play on March 6 at Collins Perley. I wouldn’t be expecting the same result from last season when the Comets won 9-0. I expect it to be a much closer game this time around. Shifting over to boys hockey, the Bobwhites graduated a solid goaltender in four-year starter Dan Ellis and some other quality players. They will be looking to play unselfish hockey similar to last year when there was no one true bona fide “goal scorer”, as they search for title No. 20. The BFA-Fairfax girls basketball team will return basically their entire team this season, so will be interesting to watch how their experience together and chemistry carries over especially early in the season. The BFA-St. Albans girls basketball team also brings back basically their entire team, as they look to continue to make a name for themselves in the Metro. Coach Paul LaFountain wanted to spend his first year at the helm last season establishing a culture in the program and he did just that and will look to keep building on that in year 2 with his roster essentially intact. On the opposite spectrum, the BFA-St. Albans boys basketball team graduated seven seniors last year, so this year’s team will look a little different. The MVU boys basketball team will look to continue to build on its 12-8 season from a year ago when they came up short in the quarterfinals against a power in U-32. Will the Thunderbirds be able to make that next step in Div. II, as they also return a number of key players from a year ago? There are so many storylines to follow this season with all the local teams that has me excited to be following them all.

—-The Question of the Week will be featured once a week throughout the season with different questions being posed each week. I will continue to add answers to this as they are submitted. If you would like to submit an answer email or submit an answer on Twitter @AnthonyLabor and I will add it to this segment. Or if you have a question you would like me and the rest of the community to answer, send it over as well and I will put it up and include an answer if you would like it added.
